Insanity - A Monologue

(Yes, this is heavily inspired by a monologue of similar basis from Far Cry 3).

[The scene opens with the actor sitting in a chair]

Oh, why hello. Gathered around to see the madman, eh? I feel like an exhibit in a museum, or more accurately, an animal trapped in the zoo. Can’t even begin to count how many times you’ve thrown me in here. Better give you the entertainment you want then…Maybe afterwards you’ll leave me be.
Have you ever heard that old quote about the definition of insanity? It says that insanity is when you do the same thing, over and over, hoping for a different outcome each time. Obviously, the person who said this wasn’t insane, because insanity when, for example, you see things that simply aren’t there. It’s when you’re trapped inside your own head, obsessed with your own twisted and disturbed thoughts…Tortured by everyday occurrences. But you know you’re truly mad if you deny your insanity, to yourself and others. And you do know of your condition, believe me. Some just don’t want to accept the fact that they’re insane. I, myself have embraced my own insanity, making me even more dangerous than a lunatic in denial. All of these descriptions tend to define me well. Now look where I am. I’m sitting in a room of rubber with a horde of observers watching my every move from behind the safety of glass. Oh well. I should have been more careful to conceal my mental condition. But, alas, it’s difficult to do when you’re crazy. You just don’t know how you’re conveying yourself half of the time. I just…need to get out of here.

[Brief pause.]

…It’s when you do the same thing, over and over hoping for a different outcome each time.
